I am searching for a reliable dedicated hosting company that will be able to meet the needs of my future music site. On my site, users will be able to upload/ download mp3's as well as upload photos. I am not entirely sure what I am going to need in terms of plans, or how many page views(est: %26gt;300,000)/ mp3 downloads I will be getting a month, but know that I want to be on the safe side, and insure that there will not be a server overload, allowing at least several hundred people to access the site at the same time, without it slowing down. Users will be able to preview music as well , and I want to make sure that this function works smoothly without having connection issues due to too much activity at any given time. How can I setup my computer at home to access a website I built in school, from outside the home on the Web.?

I built a website in school using Java(JDBC, Servlets .etc). We never really learned how to setup our book website project outside of our laptops. For example, we can pull up our static web page on our laptop and navigate around in it to perform various tasks (i.e. querying book info in an Oracle database, shopping cart, saving book data .etc). But I was trying to setup something at home to leave the computer on at home and somehow connect from work or anywhere outside the home to say http://myBookSite.com. I'd like to do this without setting up an account somehwere elese online that has Web Hosting. I guess I'm trying to figure out how do I setup my own Web Hosting at home.

For that you have to setup a webserver on your home computer with Java installed in it. The two most used webservers are Apache and IIS. Then you have to buy a domain from a Registrar or directly from the ICANN called mybooksite.com. Next you have to point the DNS of your computer to that of the domain. Is there a way to use my home computer as a server and be secure(have a login to server on the web)???

I want to have a web site of my own, but have it only available to me. I want the website to be where i can upload files from another computer(not the computer with the server on it) on the site in order to access them some where else like a meeting of something. I want my computer to host the web page so i don't have to pay the monthly fees of web hosting. I don't want to buy an expensive server just for this purpose. I have a regular internet provider Comcast. Pretend i am computer stupid when answering so it is more clear step by step.

If so then you can probably use the website builders many web hosting companies offer. If templates are too much of a cookie cutter for you. You can buy a template and have it changed professionaly for as less as $100. About the hosting price, I would say try 1and1.com, they are world wide and reliable, and cheaper than go-daddy (about $2.99). So don't fall into the $125 traps. ;-)
